2016 will go down as a season of hard work, hard riding and misfortune for the Z-1 Tuning Team.
Pro rider Bodhi Edie of Warman, Saskatchewan, suffered from front end chatter issues with his Yamaha YZF-R1 throughout the Mopar CSBK season but still showed flashes of brilliance, setting some impressive lap times during the course of the National season. With a late start to the race season, then suffering a big crash early in the Nationals, the team had very limited time and resources.
These issues meant that Edie lost valuable experience and seat time. In these times of adversity, dismal results and frustration, Edie kept his head up and repeatedly worked through setup issues showing us all what a true professional he is at this young age.
“We have all worked extremely hard this year trying to resolve our many issues,” explained Zaid Saleemi of Toronto’s Z-1. “Our goal is always to provide Bodhi with a competitive motorcycle. Bodhi has been an amazing talent to work with and we have all the faith that we will be able to get Bodhi to mesh with our R1 during this off-season.”
Z-1 Tuning would like to thank everyone that has been involved with this young team: Kevin Birkett and the crew from Trip-Dub racing have handled all the logistics, finances and hospitality, and we could not have done this without Trip-Dub.
Laura Lang and Parts Canada have supported Bodhi with the finest Alpinestars gear and HJC helmets, keeping him safe. Parts Canada products like Akrapovic and Dynojet have made the Yamaha R1 even more powerful.
Trevor Beckman from Flexiglass provided us with some of the finest bodywork and it helped us in building the lightest Pro Superbike on the CSBK National grid. Jon Cornwell from Ohlins suspension and his never-ending knowledge were an integral part of our chassis set-up efforts.
Most of all, Trip-Dub and Z-1 want to thank John Bayliss and Yamaha Motor Canada for giving them an opportunity to compete on such an advanced machine.
Z1 Tuning is more serious and hungrier than ever to return to the National Superbike Podium and will proceed with testing immediately to prepare for the 2017 season. We would also like to show our gratitude to the staff at CSBK and everyone else involved in the Championship that makes racing possible at this level.
