Tomas Casas will be forced to sit out the opening round of the 2022 CSBK national season, as he continues to recover from injuries sustained in a pre-season training incident.

The Yamaha Canada/Parts Canada/ITK9 rider broke his right scaphoid in a crash in mid-April but was making every effort to prepare for round one in Grand Bend, June 9-12. However, after meeting with doctors, Casas and the medical team decided he was not healthy enough to return in time for the opening doubleheader.

Instead, Casas remains confident he will be back by round two in Calabogie, and hopes the extra rest will allow him to return at close to 100% for the final seven races of the nine-race calendar.

“I’m quite disappointed to not be racing right away, but the scaphoid is a slow healing bone and ultimately the best thing is to allow it to heal properly rather than complicating the injury further,” Tomas said. “You can see in MotoGP how an early return to racing has prolonged world champion Marc Marquez’s recovery from his own injury, and that’s something we want to avoid at all costs.”

Casas had recently updated his plans for the 2022 campaign as he returns aboard a Yamaha YZF-R1 with help from Parts Canada and ITK9, and the goal is for Casas to still represent the team by attending the opening round in Grand Bend.

The two-time Sport Bike champion and Superbike frontrunner will be signing autographs and interacting with fans in the paddock, and is eager to meet what is expected to be a big crowd as the series returns to Grand Bend for the first time since 2019.

Casas would again like to thank title sponsors Yamaha Motor Canada, Parts Canada, and ITK9 for their continued support ahead of the 2022 season, while also recognizing the backing from GBRacing, Motul, Pro6 Cycle and Dunlop Tires, Hindle Exhaust, Bickle Racing, Flexiglass, DP Brakes, Brooklin Cycle Racing, Vortex, Human 2.0, Forsaken Motorsports, Peterborough Cycle Salvage, Trackdayhub, Laps4MD, and everyone else who continues to support the team’s journey.
