Edie’s Up-and-Down Debut for Trip-Dub Racing Yamaha at Mopar CSBK Opener
During an eventful first round of the 2016 Mopar CSBK Series at Shannonville Motorsport Park, 20-year-old Bodhi Edie and his new team made constant setup and ergonomic changes to successfully mesh bike with rider. The Trip-Dub Racing/Z-1 Cycle Tech/Dunlop Yamaha YZF-R1M eventually qualified in 7th place, just missing out on the Dalton Timmis Insurance Qualifying bonus program.
“We made some pretty big changes to the bike over the course of the weekend and Bodhi has really impressed us all with his patience and feedback” said crew chief Zaid Saleemi. Warman, SK, based Edie was making his first National start since the series finale at Le Circuit Mount Tremblant in 2013.
After a great start moving from 7th to 5th Bodhi rode his R1 at a blistering pace, lapping in the mid 1:05 second range, and moved into 4th place, top Yamaha. Edie’s race pace was almost a second faster than he qualified.
This inspiring effort was cut short on lap 20 of 22 when his Yamaha Canada supported R1 superbike lost grip to the back tire coming onto the front straight, in plain view of the main grandstand and TSN Cameras. Edie quickly remounted after a brief slide that barely scuffed his Alpinestars gear, aiming to still harvest a few Championship points.
"It was quite frustrating to run such a good race then to have that unfortunate get off, in the end I look to the positive side and I'm glad to finish and gather some important series points," confirmed Edie.
“Unfortunately the extreme temperature made for a greasy track and the tires were going away for everyone.”
Bodhi was able to pick the bike up and salvaged a respectable 9th place finish.
"Even with this minor disappointment our team is extremely happy with the progress and confidence in the package and looking forward to the next round," stated Kevin Birkett of Winnipeg-based Trip-Dub Racing.
“Now we will work on development prior to the next round, the first Pro Superbike double header of the year, at Autodrome St-Eustache in Quebec at the end of June.”
