Trevor Daley reaches for the stars—and nearly touches them—in a highlight-reel-worthy weekend at Calabogie Motorsports Park
Much of the excitement from motorcycle racing is—let’s face it—the risk vs. reward proposition. It goes, in theory, like this: the higher risks you’re willing to take, the greater the rewards may come your way. Simple. In theory.
Trevor Daley’s Superbike race one this past weekend during CSBK round 2 at Calabogie Motorsports Park was falling nicely to plan. He was sitting third, lapping a half-second quicker than last year, and as the race wound down he noticed second-place rider “Uncle” Ben Young slipping back slightly into Trevor’s grasp. Of course, the safe thing to do would have been to take third, to thank your sponsors and team from the podium, and call it a day. But that’s hardly in the spirit of racing, so Trevor gave it his all until a Turn 8 highside shot him into the treetops. Never one to let a catastrophe sully his day, Trevor remounted and battled back to an eighth-place finish. “You’ve gotta try,” said a sore Trevor.
With Trevor’s GSX-R patched up, Sunday’s race two was a gut-it-out through-the-pain podium ride to third, Trevor admitting that he was far too sore to mount a serious challenge to the sharp end of the field. All in all, the weekend, despite its challenges, was a success. Trevor climbed a spot to third in the standings, gained valuable points for Suzuki in the manufacturer’s championship, and has two weeks to regain his fitness before the team treks down east for round three in Nova Scotia.
A huge thank you is due to MotoSPEC software’s Jeff Laidman and Scott Cameron from SC Motorsports. And to team members who contributed from afar to make the weekend one to remember.
