Tough weekend for Jacob Shaw-O’Leary, still in CBR250R title hunt
Jacob Shaw-O’Leary arrived at Autodrome St-Eustache last weekend leading the Honda CBR250R National Series, but trouble in qualifying made it difficult to fight for and retain the points lead.
The Falmouth, NS rider crashed on his first lap of Saturday morning’s qualifying session. Although he was uninjured in the fall, his motorcycle suffered a broken handlebar which left him unable to ride back to the pits to repair the damage and continue. The starting grids for both Saturday’s and Sunday’s races in the double-header weekend were set from the single session.
Shaw O’Leary’s practice times from Friday were indicative of a front row start, however, after posting no times in the qualifying session he was forced to start his Pro Cycle/O’Leary Brothers Racing Honda CBR250R from the back of the grid.
Although Shaw-O’Leary wasn’t able to fight for the lead in either race, he managed to pull together a pair of solid finishes on Saturday and Sunday.
"The weekend went pretty good. I had a rough start on Saturday after crashing out of qualifying,” stated Shaw-O’Leary. “I started from the back of the grid for both races, but was able to make it up to finish 5th and 4th."
Shaw-O’Leary now sits third in the point standings with 161 points behind the 178 points of Cameron Walker and 183 points of Eric Quintin.
The next two rounds of the Honda CBR250R National Series take place at O’Leary Brothers Racing’s home track, Atlantic Motorsport Park near Shubenacadie, NS.
