It was this past week-end that took place the first 2019 MOPAR Canadian Superbike Championship round at Shannonville Motorsport Park.
On board his RRRacing built / Turcotte Performace / D.B. Moto ZX6R, Alex Coelho would find himself struggling from the first day of the week-end.
‘’Not what I had in mind, when I was prepping for my season opener. I felt good till I got to the track. Found myself looking for the right settings on the bike, in order to make it easier to ride and do some fast laps.’’
Saturday saw Coelho qualifying in 13th… a place where he is not use to be. ‘’ Couldn’t get the traction down on the bike. Entering corners didn’t feel very confident either and found myself over working on the bike.’’
Sunday came around and Alex found a bit more speed but nothing that seemed to impress him. ‘’I seriously thought I went much faster during the race.’’
Alex was running 12th and two laps to the end, saw the two leaders, Casas and Tremblay came together, pushing Alex to 10th at the end. ‘’Just happy that both riders didn’t have any injuries’’
‘’All in all, I am taking away the positive with this first week-end. I improved at every session and I’m feeling slightly better on the bike. Will be picking up my training… the week has been hard on my old body.’’ Says Alex with a slight smirk and chuckle.
‘’I thank a lot François Barbe from BRS, for taking the time to help me out with my suspension settings, making me feel more at ease on my Kawasaki ZX6R.’’
‘’I can’t imagine being able to still be racing at my age without the help and support of D.B. Moto for helping me out with what was needed to rebuild my engine. Rob Roston from RRRacing and the help of Gord Bush Performance for building me the engine and Turcotte Performance for tuning the hell out of it. With them, the bike is a rocket, now it’s up to me hold it all together.’’
Alex thanks everyone that is involved in his 2019 season: D.B. Moto, Turcotte Perfomance, TP Distribution and GULF oil, RRRacing, Hindle Exhausts, SHOEI Helmets, Sportbike Track Gear, Drippin’ Wet, Vortex and Muay Thaï Rive-Sud.
Also a honourable mention to the CSBK staff, Pro 6 Cycle for the great sticky service with those Dunlops, Bickle Racing, the fans that always come out to encourage us and the ALL THE MARSHALLS AND MEDICAL STAFF for their amazing work !!!
The series travels to the next round at Grand Bend Motorplex, Ont. June 7/9 of the 2019 MOPAR Canadian Superbike Championship.
