Race one winner Alex Dumas continued to top the timesheets in the GP Bikes Pro Superbike class on Sunday, leading FP3 ahead of race two later this afternoon at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
Dumas held off a late charge from championship leader Ben Young to score his first victory of the year on Saturday, and he took another step towards a weekend sweep by topping the morning practice session ahead of pole-sitter Sam Guerin on Sunday.
The trio of Dumas, Guerin, and Young traded stints at the top in the final five minutes as part of a razor-thin top-four, but Dumas ultimately put in the final benchmark as he posted a time of 1:21.728 in the last few moments aboard his Economy Lube Ducati.
Guerin would claim the second-fastest spot, just 0.404 seconds off the pace for EFC Group BMW, and crucially ahead of championship leader Young as Guerin tries to claw back valuable points in race two.
As for Young, the three-time champion would finish FP3 in third and a half-second from rival Dumas, though he proved on Saturday that his season-worst starting position of ninth shouldn’t be a significant issue as he tries to preserve his 40-point title advantage over Guerin.
Jordan Szoke would complete the narrow top-four, with just 0.625 seconds covering the group down to the CKM Kawasaki rider. Szoke faded to a comfortable fourth in race one but flashed enough early pace to run with the likes of Dumas, Guerin, and Young, something he will try to replicate from the second row this afternoon.
Rounding out the top-five was Szoke’s new satellite teammate Torin Collins, who continued to make progress aboard his Economy Lube/CKM Kawasaki after a solid sixth in his debut with the team on Saturday.
The feature class will now prepare for the second half of their doubleheader at CTMP, just an hour east of Toronto, currently scheduled for 2:30 pm ET.
