Riedmann On Track as Season Opens at Shannonville

Unseasonable weather attracts competitors to RACE Test Day

The eastern Canadian motorcycle roadracing season opened with a RACE-organized Test and School event at Shannonville Motorsport Park’s southern Nelson venue on Saturday, May 2.  Action moved to the northern Fabi layout for Sunday, May 3.

Unseasonably good weather encouraged a wide range of competitors to attend activities at the S.M.P. facility, first opened for bike racers in the fall of 1976.  RACE Boss Chris Chapelle hosted a RACE School for aspiring competitors, and a wide range of current racers attended from The Pro, Amateur and Vintage categories.

As well, the SRA sidecar group hosted their own instructional event for three-wheeled competitors, including “Cycle Canada” celebrity author and famed flat track fanatic Neil Graham.

Reigning Hindle Exhaust Pro Sport Bike National Champion Kenny Riedmann was busy with development work aboard the team’s new Sturgis Cycle/GE Capital-backed Ninja ZX-10R Superbike.  In his first outing with the potent Feature class entry, Riedmann was pleased with the team’s efforts, getting ready for the opening MOPAR CSBK National tour round at Calabogie Motorsports Park on June 12-14.

Another veteran Pro getting use to new Superbike equipment was Michael Leon, the popular Montreal rider and former overall RACE Series Champ also happy with progress on-track.  “The bike works so well, it’s really easy to ride,” explained Leon.  “And that’s remarkable for a bike with so much power.  Obviously, I’m just getting started, but I’m really pleased so far.  It should be a good season in the Pro Superbike Feature.”

Ontario Regional race action in Ontario kicks off at Shannonville on May 16-17, with the opening event of the RACE SuperSeries hosting practice and qualifying on Saturday and Feature race finals on Sunday. Riders attending the Friday Practice on May 15 will also receive lunch at no charge as part of their entry.
