Ben Young Nabs Gonsalves Award at Toronto Bike Show

With many top Canadian racers from various disciplines of motorcycling on hand at the Motorcycle Show Toronto, at the Enercare Centre at Exhibition Place on Saturday, February 22, the annual industry event offered a chance to hand out awards to some of the most successful competitors of the 2019 race season.

2019 Mopar CSBK National Champion Ben Young of Collingwood, ON, attended the second day of the three day show to visit with fans and sign his new Liqui Moly poster at the Mopar CSBK booth.

With Young on hand, famed motorsport voice Pat Gonsalves had the opportunity to hand deliver the trophy for the most exciting Pro rider, the Pat Gonsalves Award.

Prior winners of the prestigious microphone trophy include Royal Distributing BMW racer Michael Leon of Montreal, QC, in 2016, Yamaha R1-mounted Elie Daccache from Newcastle, ON, who has dominated Shannonville’s Super-Series in recent years on his Yamaha Superbike, and 2018 Gonsalves Award victor Tomas Casas of Peterborough, ON, recently re-signed with Yamaha Canada to lead their Mopar Superbike program.

Gonsalves will soon be heading to Florida where he will announce at the 60th annual running of the Daytona 200 motorcycle race.

The 2020 Canadian tour opens at Shannonville, ON, May 21-24, where Young will begin his title defense for the Scott-Build BMW Motorrad Superbike program.  The season-ending round is scheduled for Shannonville Motorsport Park in September, where both Gonsalves and Young will be in action to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Superbike racing in Canada.  The final round of 2020 occurs forty years to the day since the first ever National at Shannonville Motorsport Park back in 1980.

The Motorcycle Show Toronto wraps up Sunday, February 23 at 5 PM, with the show tour heading to Montreal for the next weekend, February 28-March 1.
