Team News: Casas Opts Out of Calabogie One-Day Event

The goal for Tomas Casas’ in 2020 was clear. After finishing fourth in his very first race on a 1000 cc Superbike in 2019, the Colombian native carried that momentum into a fourth overall finish in the Canadian Superbike Championship’s feature Pro Superbike class. After making great off-season progress to his fitness program, securing sponsorships and adding data specialist Andrew Trevitt to the team, Casas had one mission: to put the No. 1 plate on his Yamaha Motor Canada YZF-R1 in 2020.

Unfortunately, the CSBK series was one of many victims of the COVID-19 pandemic that put the entire world on hold. After an extended off-season that saw the first four races of the original schedule cancelled, CSBK decided to announce a one-day event at Calabogie Motorsports Park this weekend. No further race dates for 2020 are confirmed.

Following the announcement of the event and after much thought, Casas made the difficult decision not to not attend the event. Casas’ opt-out is understood and supported by both of his main sponsors, Yamaha Motor Canada and Parts Canada, along with the rest of his sponsors who have pushed through their support for the 2021 season.

“On behalf of all the team, we want to wish everyone attending this Saturday’s race safe, fun racing – and good luck,” says the two-time CSBK Liqui Moly Pro Sport Bike champion and former Pro Rookie of the Year.

For the time being, Casas would like to thank all his fans and sponsors for their understanding of this decision. The Peterborough, ON rider will spend time coaching and attending possible track days with Pro 6 Cycle at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park this summer and will get out on track when possible in order to further develop his program for the 2021 season.
