CSBK confirm Amateur Lightweight participation in RACE season opener at SMP

The Mopar CSBK Series will host a non-Championship weekend for the new Amateur Lightweight Sport Bike category at the opening RACE SuperSeries regional event at Shannonville Motorsport Park’s Pro Circuit, May 11-13.  The event will be conducted in the exact same format as a National weekend for the LTWT category, so competitors can get use to procedures prior to the points-paying opening race at the same track two weeks later, May 25-27.

Mopar CSBK Series staff will be on hand to conduct these events, and logistics partner Brooklin Cycle Racing will bring the Official Series Dynojet Dyno so that measurements can be taken after every on-track session for Amateur Lightweight Sport Bike.

“The goal for the RACE SuperSeries weekend is to provide a full-on practice situation for all of our new Amateur Lightweight Sport Bike competitors,” explains CSBK National Technical boss Fred Benjamin.  “With no points on offer, a schedule that duplicates the National format and no other classes from our National program, we can focus on getting everyone settled both on track, in Technical Inspection and on the Podium.”

The typical full range of Amateur and Pro classes offered by the RACE Regional SuperSeries will be available as usual for all competitors at S.M.P. in mid-May.

“As well, CSBK racers can compete in RACE Regional SuperSeries classes with their LTWT class racers,” continued Benjamin.  “The opportunity for early season track time, complete with electronic lap scoring and media coverage, will provide a strong start for our new category.  We expect a good entry and lots of close on-track action as the Amateur Lightweight Sport Bike category develops over the summer of 2018.”

Other classes that are available for the typical Lightweight competitor during the RACE-sanctioned Regional event at SMP in mid-May include Mopar Express Lane Lightweight Production, Lightweight Sportsman, Lightweight Superbike and Lightweight Twins.  These categories will permit National Amateur Lightweight Sport Bike teams to gain track time in preparation for the opening points-paying National at the same venue May 25-27.

Competitors planning to take part at Shannonville May 11-13 can call or email the SMP Office to the attention of Linda, 613-969-1907, This email address is being protected from spambots. RACE have also confirmed that the Mopar Express Lane Lightweight Sport Bike Regional Championship will serve as a support class at the first two CSBK National rounds, at Shannonville at the end of May and at Grand Bend Motorplex south of Lake Erie on June 8-10.  There will also be a Society of the Atlantic Racing League sanctioned Lightweight PRO-AM support class race at the Pro Cycle backed East Coast National at Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia, July 19-22.

It is also expected that a non-National support class for a wider range of Lightweight racers will be offered at the final event of the season at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park August 10-12, backed once again by Bickle Racing.
